SURTREAT® + CFRP for Waterfront Infrastructure
Protecting & Strengthening Seawalls, Ports, Piles, Piers, Jetties, Lighthouses & Docks
Waterfront structures face constant attack from moisture, salt, and environmental stresses that cause steel corrosion and concrete degradation. Traditional physical solutions—such as carbon fiber reinforcement, coatings, and structural repairs—restore strength and stability but do not fully address the underlying causes of deterioration. Chemical solutions, like SURTREAT® advanced migratory formulations, penetrate deep into concrete and steel to stabilize, preserve, and mitigate future corrosion.
Stand Alone Surtreat Formulations Provide:
Corrosion Mitigation & Prevention
TPS II & TPS XII migrate into concrete to protect rebar.
Rust Converter & VCI Primer shield steel piles and seawalls from marine corrosion.
Specification Backing
SURTREAT® identified in UFGS 09 97 23.17 Corrosion Inhibitor Coating of Concrete Surfaces.
Supported by DoD/NAVFAC publications on hot, humid environments.
Smarter Concrete Repair
Minimize demolition by stabilizing weakened concrete through migration and densification.
Then apply CFRP to supplement corroded reinforcement.
SurCoat Finishing Options
Thin protective aesthetic coating applied over CFRP for durability and uniform appearance.
Underwater & Harsh Marine Application
Vacuum injection systems enable underwater placement.
Safe for tidal, splash, and submerged zones.
Sustainable Long-Term Value
50–100 year life extension demonstrated.
Non-toxic, water-based technologies protect marine environments.
By combining chemical and physical solutions, owners and engineers achieve a more holistic, turnkey approach—repairing damage, restoring strength, and creating long-lasting protection. This dual strategy not only extends service life but also reduces long-term maintenance costs and ensures structures remain safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Enhanced Physical Solutions using SURTREAT® technology:
Surtreat FRP++ minimizes concrete removal, protects against corrosion occurring under the FRP, and enables a surface-applied solution—saving time, reducing costs, protecting the environment, and extending durability against future deterioration.”
Surtreat Waterproofing++ delivers deeper protection at the level of the rebar, increases the bond between the waterproofing and the concrete, supports sustainability, and extends the service durability of the waterproofing solution and the structure.”
Case Studies
Great Neck Steel Seawall – Long Island, NY
Severe corrosion & soil loss restored with Rust Converter + VCI System.
Jet filters and polyurethane topcoat prevented soil loss and marine deterioration.
Result: corrosion halted, structural stability restored, long-term marine protection
Conley Terminal Pier Berth 10 – Massachusetts
· Newly placed 140,000 SF of concrete developed micro and macro cracking shortly after placement.
· Risk of chloride ingress and accelerated corrosion demanded preventive action.
· Surtreat TPS IV was applied across the pier, reacting with the concrete to form C-S-H (calcium silicate hydrate), naturally sealing cracks and densifying the surface.
· Results:
o 150% increase in abrasion resistance (ASTM C944 testing).
o Dramatic reduction in chloride penetration.
o Hardened, strengthened, and more chemically resistant surface.
o Long-term breathable protection without peeling or film formation.
· Outcome: Durable, corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free pier ready for heavy marine traffic.
Takeaway
SURTREAT ensures substrate
stability, corrosion protection, and long-term durability that. Provides a complete,
specification-backed solution for waterfront infrastructure preservation.
The result: 50–100 year life extension for critical waterfront
structures.
